Introducing: rLoop DAO
rLoopDAO is a community-governed organisation dedicated to accelerating the research, development, and adoption of new technologies that address the environmental and natural resource challenges of climate change, energy, water, food and waste. To achieve this, rLoop employs a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) structure for community participation, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to represent intellectual property and data assets, and financial engineering tools that operate on the Avalanche blockchain network.
rLoopDAO focuses on the identification, support, acquisition, and creation of innovations that address the environmental and natural resource challenges of climate change, energy, water, food and waste. It holds its intellectual property rights and data assets as NFTs in an effort to bridge the physical world and the virtual economy. These assets can then be leveraged in new and unique ways to create an ecosystem of permissionless innovation.
rLoop mitigates the risk of early-stage R&D by leveraging an untapped global pool of talent and resources, harnessing the wisdom of the crowd, and facilitating group coordination. Over the past few years of operation, rLoop has developed and tested processes for collaboration on complex and interdependent work with a view to advance from conceptualization to prototype to launch in the shortest possible time frame.
rLoop has been a decentralised organisation since 2015 — however it has been private and not open to the global community. As the landscape of decentralised governance evolves, so too must we adapt. Recognizing the potential of DAOs, we embarked on a new chapter and opened our doors to the global community, transforming rLoop into a truly inclusive and self-governing collective.
rLoop is composed of over 2000+ engineers and experts with talent from NASA, Boeing, SpaceX and more. rLoop aims to become the most innovative and largest DAO of cognitive supply in the world. Our revenue has exceeded $300M+ since our inception and we intend to continue to scale this up and share the rewards with our DAO members.
rLoop Governance
Governance of the rLoopDAO is entirely managed by the rLoopDAO community, which is achieved through the governance and curation token, $rLoop. The token can be obtained by contributing resources, work, or funds to rLoopDAO. Ownership of $rLoop allows its holder to engage in decision-making and governance of rLoopDAO's research, support for specific projects, and govern its data and IP portfolio.
Ultimately, rLoopDAO intends to enable a global community of researchers and engineers to rapidly deploy resources to accelerate innovations that can address some of our greatest challenges. It is a means to coordinate knowledge and productivity while making decisions collectively and quickly.
As the governance system for rLoop requires resilience to manipulation, tokens alone are not sufficient to represent voting rights. If tokens represent influence and can be traded, there is a risk that a wealthy few can dictate control over the network. This would be a pseudo-plutocracy, which seems to be becoming more common in decentralised projects.
The rLoop solution is a non-transferable reputation system. This dynamic rating system, measured across a variety of metrics, encourages and rewards productive activity and contributions while discouraging counterproductive and malicious activity. The reputation of contributors to the network will affect their rights and responsibilities, thereby ensuring valuable contributors have meaningful involvement in the governance of the organisation.
rLoop DAO's Journey and Achievements
When rLoop was first organised, the team was focused on a single project—designing and building a prototype pod for the Hyperloop Competition announced by SpaceX. Almost nine years have elapsed, and the community has organically created a globally distributed network of talent and resources fueled by a passion for innovation.
rLoop operated largely autonomously and under the pressure of the aggressive competition schedule set by SpaceX. By adopting a horizontal organisational structure and an open-source philosophy, rLoop facilitated collaboration among over 1,000 contributors from more than 16 countries.

During this journey, we realised the strength and value in the organisation and the processes rLoop developed to facilitate global collaboration. The rLoop community has done just that, and we intend to continue the mission to develop and launch innovative technology for the benefit of humanity.
