XPRIZE Carbon Removal is a $100 million global competition, funded by Elon Musk and the Musk Foundation, aimed at fighting climate change by removing carbon from the atmosphere and oceans. This challenge invites innovators from around the world to develop sustainable and scalable carbon capture solutions.

The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that removing 10 gigatonnes of CO₂ per year by 2050 is essential to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Teams must demonstrate a solution that can remove at least 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year and scale to gigatonne levels. Any carbon-negative solution is eligible, including nature-based, direct air capture, ocean-based, and mineralization approaches.
